Oliveira negated the controlled, time-consuming process usually associated with print making by highlighting his loose, painterly gesture. Lithography appealed to him as an extension of painting, challenging him as it subverted his intentions and introduced elements he would not have arrived at on his own. The energy and spontaneity of his action leaves splatters and gives the image a haunting presence.
