On View
Not on viewHere, five actors from the commedia dell’arte present themselves to the viewer, still in costume but out of role, as if at the end of a performance. Boucher created this etching apart from Julienne’s collection. It reproduces a red chalk drawing by Watteau that is today in Berlin. The same drawing was the basis of Watteau’s own most characteristic etching.
