Carlos Orozco Romero produced this print a year after attending the new lithography workshop that opened at the National School of Fine Arts, which attracted many artists active in Mexico City. Orozco Romero often depicted mannequin and puppet-like figures. In this case, a drawn curtain reveals a dress mannequin topped by a pre-Columbian mask, a reference to ancient Mexican art that was common in the art of the period. The grainy surfaces, tilted floor, and backlit body make the space look unstable. The uneasy feeling and unexpected juxtapositions suggest the artist was familiar with Surrealism.
