Latin American Art: 1950–1969

The Blanton began collecting Latin American art in the 1960s, constituting one of the oldest, largest and most comprehensive collections of Latin American in the country. During the second half of the 20th century, when modern art became consolidated and institutionalized in Latin America, artists became progressively involved in international artistic circles. Many chose to explore abstract art through a diversity of approaches, including Concrete Art, Constructivism, Kinetic Art, Op art, and Informalism. Others favored figuration, ranging from Surrealism, expressionistic Neofiguration, and Pop Art.
