Dream Space

Of all the arts of the 20th century, architecture is perhaps the one that has most radically transformed our everyday lives. Architecture forms the backdrop to our lives, work, and dreams. "Dream Space" features eight video works by contemporary artists who have imagined highly self-conscious architectural experiences. Their notions of architecture vary widely–some question it as a platform for utopian thinking (a space of dreams), others underscore its surreal associates (a space in dreams), or satirize its value to the culture (space that is a dream come true). All construct narratives charged with psychological and deeply personal meanings at the same time that they layer in references to pop culture, commercial media, history, or music. Inviting us to be both witnesses and participants, their works generate a range of emotional responses from fear and horror, to exuberant joy, melancholic longing, and simple wonder.
