Overture: New Ways of Seeing The Blanton Collection

Saturday, June 25, 2011 - Sunday, August 21, 2011
Overture: New Ways of Seeing The Blanton Collection features a selection of fifty-seven works from across the museum’s holdings designed to welcome visitors to the art museum experience. Spanning centuries and continents, the display includes visitor favorites and rarely seen works in all mediums by James Surls, Albrecht Dürer, José Guadalupe Posada, Kathe Kollwitz, Radcliffe Bailey, Ando Hiroshige, Bill Lundberg, Joan Mitchell, Thomas Moran and others. Presented within instructive contexts, concepts such as color, material, and genre are examined to inspire deeper understanding and appreciation of the artistic process. An experiment in museum methods, Overture is designed to spark curiosity, encourage active viewing, and enhance time spent in all of The Blanton’s galleries.
