Restoration and Revelation: Conserving The Suida-Manning Collection

Saturday, November 17, 2012 - Sunday, March 9, 2014
Antonio Carneo's seventeenth century canvas, "The Death of Rachel," recently restored by the National Gallery of Canada, serves as the focal point of this in-depth look at the role of conservation in caring for the Blanton's Suida-Manning Collection. Several additional objects representing a range of problems, techniques, and treatments accompany "The Death of Rachel," offering insight into the tools and methods of art conservation as well as the complex ethical considerations curators and conservators face. Go beneath the surface of old master works in this exhibition to explore how the convergence of art and science can reveal surprising new discoveries and understanding about paintings and drawings while preserving them for future generations.
