On View
Not on viewThere is a sweet familiarity to Vanni’s St. Francis in Ecstasy. The setting is minimal, analogous to the poverty Francis proclaimed as the path to God. Vanni has rendered Francis’ face as emaciated and pock marked. Any anxiety the viewer might feel is assuaged by the ebullience of the angel.
