On View
Not on viewAlessandro Maganza was the first and most accomplished of a family of artists that dominated late sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century Vicenza. Their paintings generally offer a prosaic interpretation of Tintoretto’s dynamic design, dazzling illumination and broad execution. More distinctive and convincing, their drawings give an angular path a sharper edge to Veronese’s pen work. Recalling both Tintoretto and Veronese’s treatments of the Deposition, this sheet is a fine example.
