Cottet was fascinated with the tumultuous seascapes and gray sky in the Brittany region of France. This print, based on his oil painting of the same name, is both a testimony to the fishermen’s life-threatening task and to the power of nature. The overall dark colors and the small scale of the figures contribute to the ominous, overpowering feeling of the approaching storm.
