Abraham Bosse continued his commentary on marriage in the series Marriage in the Country. The tone is decidedly softer than in Marriage in the City. Friends and relatives bring gifts of cooking pots and linen to the new bride as she sets up household. In the final verse of the inscription, the bride assures her benefactors that they will be thanked when her children - not yet born - come of age, stressing the bonds marriage forged between generations and within communities.
