Feyerabend was the leading publisher in Frankfurt during the third quarter of the century. A number of his editions were illustrated by Amman, along with the similarly talented Virgil Solis. His most curious and successful volume, Theatrum Diabolorum [The History of the Devil], is a collection of Protestant opinion about devils, their nature, and their work. It was first published in 1569, probably not coincidentally the year of this portrait.
