On View
Not on viewAnnibale Carracci arrived in Rome in 1595. His major project was the decoration of a gallery in the Farnese Palace in celebration of Duke Rannuccio’s engagement to the niece of Clement VIII. Its style combined radical naturalism with the orderliness and intellectual appeal of the city’s ingrained classicism. Created shortly before, this etching anticipates the heroic forms and sensuous presentation on the gallery ceiling.
