Miguel Angel Vidal combined his interest in abstraction, optical perception, and scientific advancements in this piece made of Plexiglass, a relatively new material in the early 1970s. Vidal affirmed, The revolutionary realities of science, research in cybernetics, bioengineering, [and] astronautics… awaken in me a series of questions that incite me to the great creative adventure. Here he explores the translucency of Plexiglass in combination with aluminum’s reflective surfaces, creating a geometric grid with kaleidoscopic qualities. The small, curved piece missing from the work seems to echo its convex/concave interior illusions, and to add to the artwork’s visual richness rather than detracting from it.
