The Blanton's work belongs to Mérida’s Crashel series, in which sand, sawdust, or particles of paper are constantly shifting and forming different patterns. As in the work of Gyula Kosice, a normally static medium, such as painting or sculpture, is transformed into a work that is ever-changing and dynamic. While other kinetic artists such as Cruz-Diez and Soto experimented with the illusion of vibration or movement through juxtapositions of color, Mérida instead opts for literal movement that engages the viewer in a simple and direct way
