On View
Not on viewBellows made two paintings and two lithographs of this subject from sketches he had made in Newport, Rhode Island. The lithographs differ slightly in composition from the paintings but retain much of the same luminous style. Bolton Brown worked closely with Bellows to print many of his lithographs. He also made batches of crayons specially formulated to allow Bellows to produce the fullest possible tonal range. Through parallel hatchings and rubbing, Bellows shows not only the texture of the grass but the play of the summer sunshine.
