Ballesteros’s work references abstraction and conceptual art, a practice that challenges traditional approaches to art and materials by giving precedence to ideas. As the title states, the artist drew continuously for 30 minutes to produce this work, creating 3746 possible formal arrangements and 255 intersection points. At first glance, the drawing appears to be an abstract composition, but after reading the drawing’s title, we realize the artwork is a documentation of actions that took place in order to create it. Ballesteros’s drawings mirror his performances, and his explanatory titles are descriptions of his movements.
