On View
Not on viewA visual and sound artist from Los Angeles, Roden creates artworks that combine painting, drawing, sculpture, film, sound, and performance. Inspired by a twelve-page musical score, this painting is one from a series in which Roden transcribed sound into image by assigning every note in the musical arrangement a visual character—line, shape, color, etc.—in order to explore the relations between relative systems of art and communication. In gray clouds and faint drones resonating, Roden’s vigorous juxtapositions of color, line, and form make the canvas appear to pulsate. Musical notes translated into visual form generate a sophisticated composition of an entirely different kind.
