San Antonio photographer Al Rendón captured the late Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla (1971–1995), known as the “Queen of Tejano music,” for the cover of her 1992 album Entre a Mi Mundo. Quintanilla designed her own costumes and eventually spearheaded her fashion boutique, Selena Etc., in partnership with fashion designer Martin Gomez in 1994. Best-known for her bejeweled bustiers, Quintanilla’s fashion intertwined pop star glam with Mexican ranchero Western wear. Rendón partnered with Quintanilla throughout her career, and this album cover photograph represents their shared collaborative spirit. As the photographer remembers: “She was active in every photo session, working with me to get exactly the shot we both wanted.”
