Label Text
A comedy written by Madame Favart and first presented in 1762, Annette et Lubin was based upon the actual story of a young peasant couple that had elected to live outside civilization, in nature and poverty. Debucourt's print illustrates scene XVI from the play, with the now aged couple portrayed in the ornamental device below. Half the profit from the sale of the first three hundred impressions of this print was dedicated to their benefit.
