In his series Lambris à l'italienne, Lepautre is concerned not with individuals or behavior, but the interior spaces surrounding the nobility. The anonymous figures that populate this invented architectural interior are incidental in comparison with the carefully rendered decorative tapestries, chandeliers, and frescoes
