Dodd was one of the most skilled and discriminating masters of the later etching revival. This view of London's St.-Mary-le-Strand is considered the finest of his more than one hundred architectural subjects. It approaches the work of Charles Meryon in strength of composition and characterization, and that of Whistler in personality of touch and printing. A brilliant impression, with the burr of the drypoint fresh and its contrasts stunning, it complements two fine impressions of portraits by Dodd in the collection's extensive material from the revival.
