On View
Not on viewIn the 1930s, José Clemente Orozco grew disappointed with the Mexican government, believing it had failed to fulfill the ideals of the Mexican Revolution. In “Manifestación” the artist depicts a cross-section of society, including workers and members of the middle class. The mass of people appears robotic as its members march in unison. They hold banners that begin with the word “protest” but end in indecipherable letters and numbers, bringing into question the protesters objectives and what they might achieve.
