Known for her large-scale, immersive wire sculptures, Gego sometimes referred to her three-dimensional work as “drawing without paper.” In her works on paper, she developed the delicate, organic form of abstraction that appeared in her sculpture. As the layered lines in this drawing tremble and tangle, they sometimes accumulate density and volume before flattening out again. Other times, they resemble a nonsensical language of loops and traces, occupying an indefinite terrain between line and form.
