Active in Bologna around the time of the Carracci’s reaction against Mannerist style, Faccini persisted in its arbitrary design and subjective feeling. Equally distinctive as a printmaker, he resuscitated the forms and technique of Parmigianino’s etchings. In this, his major plate, the image of the Virgin is practically a quotation of the earlier artist.
