David’s etchings are numerous, but because their editions were small – intended for a small circle of Genoese nobles and collectors -- few were recorded in the 19th-century repertories, and most are very rare. Conspicuous in its debt to 17th-century Genoese artists, this idiosyncratic nocturne is known in only one other impression, in Berlin.
