Inspired by Richard Earlom’s mezzotint reproductions of Claude Lorrain’s Liber Veritatis, Turner produced his own series of 71 landscape prints divided into six categories: historical, mountainous, pastoral, epic pastoral, marine and architectural. The prints, published between 1807 and 1819, functioned both as an advertisement to potential patrons of his skill and range and as a pedagogical tool for younger artists.
