On View
Not on viewFernando Maza lived in New York from 1960 to 1973, where he produced a series of shaped paintings featuring the old-fashioned typset numbers and letters that were arranged by hand when creating a mass-produced text. Instead of setting these types into a printing matrix, Maza depicted them as sculptures in a landscape crowded with monuments. Displaced from any text that gives them linguistic meaning, these isolated signs can be seen as memorials to the very beginning of the communication age.
