Wood produced a complex range of soft tone through tiny lines. Where the lines build up, he went back in and scratched away small highlights to invest the print with a flickering light. A stronger line in the foreground provides contrast, and Wood preserved the white of the sheet to evoke a fine line of snow on the barbed wire fence.
