They adopt familiar images precisely for their banality, but tend to emphasize the beauty, rather than the offensiveness, of such imagery - to celebrate the uniqueness of the commonplace. Franz Gertsch utilizes the instantaneous effect of photography, the scale of a cinematic close-up, and the arbitrariness of a film still to explore the visual properties of film rather than its subject matter.
