The painting of a female martyr saint merges European and local fashion in her attire, pairing a brown woolen skirt and a Spanish-looking blue blouse. The fluffy sleeves, trimmed lengthwise, are in a style known as mangas acuchilladas, literally “slashed sleeves.” Although these two paintings were made in different regions, both highlight the use of lace, an obvious European influence on the attire used in the Spanish Americas.
