Manuel Felguérez was a pioneer in the development of geometric abstraction in Mexico during the 1960s and 1970s, participating the international art scene during the post-war period. Interested in science and computers, he sought to create artworks that functioned as aesthetic machines, often using mathematics to determine changes in shape and color. The results test our visual perception and suggest the existence of multiple spaces. For instance, the white circle at the center of “Origen de la reducción” functions simultaneously as a circular opening at the end of a tunnel, as well as the top of a horizontal black cylinder.
